The donor's family has lived in Stokenchurch since at least the 17th century. The account book was probably kept by W.W. Holmes, the great-grandfather of the present occupant of Hill Farm. His grandfather R Holmes, worked as a postman and handyman but began farming again in about 1890. His father O.R. Holmes entered the business in about 1910 and took complete control in 1923. Hill Farm was occupied in 1910 and bought in 1946; Chalk Farm occupied in 1925 and Wood Farm occupied in 1937/8 were both bought in 1954
