The donor's family moved from Bagborough, co. Somerset in 1917. The donor took possession of Dracott Moor Farm, Kingston Bagpuize in 1926 and survived the worst years of the depression by breaking, breeding and selling horses, although in the first year he made a loss of over £900. His landlord, St. John's College, Oxford, reduced his annual rent by £100 and gave him other assistance. The donor left Dracott Moor Farm in 1933 to take Eastrop farm, which his father had previously occupied. The family now controls three farms in the district with a total acreage of 1500 acres
