The donor's family has long been established in co, Berks. His grandfather occupied Home Farm, Bladon, co. Oxford, in about 1880, as tenant to Lord Randolph Churchill. The donor's father moved to Lyford, co. Berks in about 1909 and in 1930 moved to Brightwell, co. Berks, where he bought Sherwood House and three farms which covered 365 acres in all Farm size etc. Manor Farm, Lyford : 388 acres; mixed soils, mainly light; owner occupier; the farm was purchased in about 1910 from an uncle for £9,000
