This is a swan's head. It was found in the fill of a post-hole associated with Building 1.

This is the spring back from a brooch which would have been used to fasten the brooch to an item of clothing. This example is on display with other interesting finds in the on site museum for visitors to see.

This is a jet pin. It is perfectly preserved and was found in the side of one of the pits being excavated on site. Hairpins such as this complete example would have been used by Roman women to support their often elaborate hairstyles. This pin probably dates to the third or fourth century. This is the jaw of a cat which was found during cleaning. We have found several complete dog skeletons at Silchester but the remains of cats have been less common.
