The Veterinary Epidemiology and Economics Research Unit (VEERU)
was established in 1977 in the
Department of Agriculture at The
University of Reading. In addition to the core activities of training
and research in veterinary epidemiology and livestock economics, VEERU has
worked closely with
PAN Livestock Services Ltd since 1987. This collaboration produces an
innovative, flexible and multi-disciplinary team that currently specialises
in the following areas of livestock production and health:
-
veterinary epidemiology, economics and surveillance;
-
policy research and capacity building for animal health delivery through
public and private veterinary services;
-
animal health and welfare in farming systems and
-
animal health and production software development.
Through
VEERU, post-graduate students undertake animal health and production related
research for MPhil and PhD degrees in the
School of Agriculture, Policy and
Development. VEERU also provides
ad hoc-training and customized short
courses, as part of its research and
consultancy activities.
During the past 30 years, VEERU has trained more than 260 MSc, MPhil and PhD
students in veterinary epidemiology and economics and has been involved in
numerous research and development projects, both in the UK and overseas. To
