Research

Design for reading: booksThe Department of Typography & Graphic Communication has a world-wide reputation for research into what can be broadly summarized as 'design for reading'. This niche within the University sector encompasses history, theory and practice in information and editorial design, typeface design, and design and printing history. Many members of staff are practising designers which influences the contexts in which research is discussed and presented.

Our relatively small size supports a collegiate research environment. We have a varied and robust postgraduate community, many of whom have connections with universities in Europe and beyond, and research funding success has ensured that we have been able to build a strong community of postdoctoral researchers.
