Fees and Funding
There are a number of opportunities available to our postgraduate students for help with funding for their studies:
Further information is also available on Fees and funding opportunities for postgraduate students.
Since 2006 Monotype has been funding the Monotype Studentship which is open to applicants on any of our MA programmes. The award has been instrumental in supporting promising applicants in their studies, and promoting research in typography.
We are delighted to be able to offer up to 5 bursaries of £1000 for MA students starting in 2014.
The Michael Twyman Bursary Fund has been set up to recognize Professor Michael Twyman's contribution to design education, along with his recent award of the Sir Misha Black Medal.
The fund is generously supported by Typography alumni, staff and supporters, who want to encourage others to study at Reading.
Michael's vision for a university subject combined intellectual and practical work in what he later described as 'design for reading' and which included book, printing and letterform history, information design, book design and typeface design. The outcome of this vision was the degree course in Typography & Graphic Communication at the University of Reading in 1968 and the Department of the same name in 1974. Since then generations of students have benefited from an approach to education that is inspirational, challenging and inclusive.
At Michael's request the fund has been set up to enable MA and PhD students to benefit from the world-leading archives and collections, relevant to Typography & Graphic Communication, that are housed in the Department.
