David Woodward first set metal type at the age of 11 when he swapped his collection of Enid Blyton books for an Adana hand press. He graduated in Typography & Graphic Communication, and after working freelance as a journalist and as a book designer for Routledge and Macmillan, set up Design for Print. The company supplies design and print with a typographic focus to organisations in the Thames Valley and beyond. He was an early adopter of information technology and has written on typefaces for non-academic readerships. David applies his experience as a practising designer in his teaching in the Department, in modules including career management, professional practice and digital design methods.
