Project title: Impact of Occupant Behaviour on the Energy Performance of New Low Carbon Buildings
Partner organisation: AECOM
After studying Anthropology at the University of Kent in Canterbury, I worked in the construction industry for four years and ran a small design and build company. I decided to gain a technical qualification in this area and went on to complete an MSc in Structural Engineering at Cardiff University. It was during this course that I developed a real passion for sustainable design in the built environment and undertook a research dissertation into low CO2 binders for concrete. My EngD research project is entitled 'The impact of occupant behaviour on the energy performance of low carbon buildings' and it allows me to combine anthropology and engineering in a way that I never thought possible. My sponsor company is AECOM and I work in the sustainability team at their offices in Bristol.
