Project Title:

Investigation and analysis of new housing defects during initial ten years after occupation

Partner Organisation:

NHBC foundation

First Supervisor:

Dr Shu-Ling Lu

Second Supervisor:

Professor Martin Sexton

Project Description:

With this EngD being in partnership with NHBC, there is a significant focus on raising standards within the new-housing sector. This research project seeks to improve the understanding of building defects within the new-build sector, in order to provide industry guidance in order to reduce the potential risk of such defects occurring.

Project Poster:

Student Profile:

Originally qualified as an Architectural Technologist, following this undertook an MSc in Management for construction. After completing the MSc, I took a position as a project manager. Then I moved on to the NHBC, working in the Claims department, where my interest in building defects began to grow, both from a technical stand point, as well as a home owner satisfaction view.

Associated/Relevant Research Groups/Centres:

Technologies for Sustainable Built Environment Centre

Funding:

EPSRC and NHBC

Expected Completion Date:

2017

Why did you choose Reading?:

The combination of both an EngD researching building defects, and the opportunity to stay located with my previous employer was a perfect combination.

Qualifications:

  •  BSc (Hons) Architectural Design Technology and Production
  • MSc Management for Construction
  • Chartered Construction Manager, MCIOB
  • Chartered Building Engineer, MCABE
