Energy and Water

energy at workOur Plan

The University is committed to reducing its environmental impacts, underlined by its pledge to reduce carbon emissions by 35% by 2015/16 and 45% by 2020/21, compared with a 2008/09 baseline.  Plans are also well underway to reduce water consumption by 10%.

The University's Carbon Management Plan and Annual Updates set out the path to achieving these objectives and the progress made to date.  In 2012, these plans were expanded to incorporate water management too.

The University has also implemented an energy management system to help us implement our carbon management plan. We are hoping to achieve the ISO50001 accreditation in Spring 2015. If you would like to view our energy management system then please get in touch.

Carbon Emissions

We are close to achieving our 35% reduction target, having cut our emissions by 31% by the end of July 2016.  The programme has delivered 58,764 tCO2 and £14.7 million of cumulative savings for the University, for an investment of £4.1 million.  Carbon progress graph 2015-16
