Working in Germany at Siemens AG

TSkiing in Germanyhe year abroad is without a doubt the best part of a languages degree not only for the language skills you will acquire throughout your time in Germany but also for the cultural aspects. As you start to think about and prepare for your time abroad, be it for six or twelve months, it is natural to feel a little anxious. After all you are being put out of your comfort zone and moving to a new country, where they don't sell home comforts such as Tetley or Marmite!

Throughout my time working in Germany not only have I increased my knowledge of business in a real-life working environment at Siemens AG, but I have had the opportunity to work on some exciting projects and go to various trade fairs and business conferences.

However I have also been able to experience German culture at its best by living with German natives and enjoy traditional festivals such as Oktoberfest and Karneval. Moreover I have had the chance to travel to more then 15 cities in and around Germany within 9 months, something a lot of students wouldn't be able to achieve without the study abroad programme.

In my opinion the only way to learn a language fluently is by going to live and experience the culture of the land you are visiting. Any doubts you may have will vanish once you set foot on new soil and start your new adventure. For anyone who is thinking about studying or working abroad I say go for it! You definitely won't regret it; the benefits you will gain are priceless. For those who are preparing to study or work abroad in Germany - Viel Glück und Viel Spaß!
