Information for parents

sunshineWe know that this is a time of uncertainty for both parents and students – the decision to come and study in the UK is a big step, and we appreciate that parents need to feel confident that their family will be safe and protected while overseas.

At the University of Reading, we take the safety of our students very seriously. We consider their physical safety and their mental health as two of our most important priorities. We believe that if our students are happy, then they will achieve their best.

We have taken significant steps to make sure that your child is looked after during their time at Reading:

  • Welcome Programme designed to help international students make friends and settle in during their first week at Reading.
  • Academic Tutors and departmental coordinators who will be a point of academic and personal contact throughout your child's time at Reading.
  • Language support (if required)
  • Free study skills suport and advice.
  • Free counselling service, with an International Student Advisor, for any personal problems that students might want to talk about in confidence.
  • Access to Career Development Skills courses specifically designed for international students.
  • Comprehensive medical service for students – Doctor, Dentist, Physiotherapist and Counselling.
  • 24-hour Security Services patrolling the well-lit campus and University accommodation.
  • Secure access to maintain safety for students in University-owned accommodation.
