Host family

Host family accommodation is bed and breakfast accommodation provided by local families who have been visited and approved by Accommodation Service staff.

This type of accommodation is usually offered to students who will stay at Reading for less than a full academic year, students who will join a course mid-way through a term or those that do not wish to live in a hall of residence.

Students in lodgings may be attached to a Hall of residence of their choice where they may take lunches and dinners, use their facilties and participate in their events.

Benefits include:

• potentially shorter period of notice required when you wish to leave
• the 2010/11 rate was £94.50 per week; rates in 2011/12 will be comparable 
• contract is with the university and not with the landlord
