Non EU students
Study abroad students from outside EU are normally expected to have completed their second year of study by the time of entry. You will need to demonstrate an academic standard in your major subjects which is sufficiently high to enable you to pursue modules at Reading.
- If you are coming to the University of Reading on an exchange programme or some other arrnagement with a partner institution, the international office (or equivalent) at your home university will need to officially nominate you as a candidate
- If you are coming to the University of Reading through a study abroad consortium they will notify us of your intended application
Please remember that when applying you will have to submit:
- A completed application form (word - 103 KB)
- A learning agreement (word- 53.0 KB) indicating the modules you would like to study
- Confirmation of your cumulative GPA (minimum of 3.0)
- Non native English speakers will need to prove levels of competence in reading, writing, speaking and comprehension of English
| Qualification Full Title | Qualification Short Name | Score Required |

| Test of English for Educational Purposes | TEEP | 6.5 |
Please note that some academic disciplines (including English Language and English Literature) will require an IETLS 7.0 (TOEFL (paper-based 600). The Erasmus & Study Abroad Office can advise at application stage if in doubt.
Students intending to study Fine Art or Typography modules must submit with their application a selection of their most recent work (approximately 15 images, not repeated) on a CD, DVD or slides.
In principle students can select any module advertised on our Erasmus & study abroad modules pages. Please note however that the module level at the University of Reading does not necessarily correspond to similar numbers used in course catalogues at your home university:
- First year (Level 4) modules may be considered as approximately equivalent to Lower Division modules. They usually require a year of prior study at university level though some may be of an introductory nature. If you are spending your 'Junior' year at Reading, you may find many of these modules appropriate.
- Second year (level 5) and third year (level 6) modules correspond to Upper Division modules and they generally require two years of prior university study in the subject areas. Most third year (Level 6)modules require a high level of subject specialisation and are similar to senior seminars or graduate level modules in the US. As always, the departmental study advisors at your home university will be able to give you advice as to the best modules for you.
Special academic requirements
If you have a specific academic requirement to take a certain number of classes as well as gain a certain amount of credit, and this requires that you will need to study particular modules for reduced credit (i.e. half the credit value listed in the module description), we will require an official signed and stamped letter from your home university stating what it is you need.
If we do not receive official notification with your Learning Agreement, students will be unable to request to take modules for less than full credit.
