Introduction

Xia Hong received her university education at National University of Defense Technology, P.R.China (BSc, 1984, MSc, 1987), and University of Sheffield, UK (PhD, 1998), all in Automatic Control. She worked as a research assistant in Beijing Institute of Systems Engineering, Beijing, China from 1987-1993. She worked as a research fellow in the Department of Electronics and Computer Science at University of Southampton from 1997-2001.

Dr Xia Hong is currently a Reader in Computational Intelligence at   Reading where she was appointed as a lecturer from Oct 2001.   Her research interests include:  Neurofuzzy systems, nonlinear system modelling and identification, learning theory and neural networks, optimization algorithms, multi-sensor data fusion, pattern recognition and classifier design, signal processing for control and communications, bioinformatics. She has published over 100 research papers, and has co-authored 1 research book ('Adaptive Modelling, Estimation and Fusion from Data', Springer Verlag, ISBN 3-540-42686-8. April 2002).
