A welcome from the Head of School

The School of Systems Engineering at the University of Reading brings together a unique mix of expertise in information technology, computer science, cybernetics and electronic engineering. Our mission is to conduct outstanding research and provide quality education, whilst working closely with business and international partners.

Our research groups maintain worldwide reputations for theoretical work in a wide range of computing and engineering specialities and seek collaborations that allow us to apply our understanding to aspects of Security, Health Technology, Digital Society, and Energy and Environment.

We offer undergraduate degree courses in our four key discipline areas and specialist courses in Artificial Intelligence and Robotics. Many of them share a common first year, allowing the flexibility to switch between degrees. Our graduates are readily employable and enjoy an enviable reputation with local industry in the heart of the UK's Silicon Valley. At postgraduate level, we offer Masters programmes in Digital Signal Processing and Cybernetics and PhD supervision in a range of speciality areas.

Much of our research and teaching involves close links with industry. For instance, we are one of the very best UK providers of Knowledge Transfer Partnership research programmes and have close links with worldwide companies like CISCO and CSC in our curriculum. Internationally, we have teaching and research partnership arrangements with Universities across Europe and in China, America, South America and Africa.
