Beijing visit

Dr Ferryman in Beijing Dr James Ferryman completed a highly successful visit to Beijing during 18-21 March 2007. The visit, in collaboration with the Informatics Research Centre, aimed to explore the opportunities for commercialisation, deployment and evaluation of the output of computer vision activities within the School. Over the course of four days, Dr. Ferryman met, and gave presentations to, industrialists, investors, the Ministry of Public Security, the Beijing Police, and the Beijing Olympic Committee. The accompanying image shows Dr. Ferryman after a presentation was given to the Beijing Organising Committee for the Games of the XXIX Olympiad. The output of the research undertaken within the Computational Vision Group, resulting from investigation undertaken as part of a number of UK and EU projects, has particular application to safety, security and threat assessment of crowded public spaces including transportation areas, stadia and commercial outlets.
