Sandro joined the Statistical Services Centre in October 1997. He is an agroforester with a keen interest not only in the production and harvest, but also in the ecology and conservation of natural resources.
He uses fractional factorial experiments (how to get away with less than one replicate per treatment!) for expensive or lengthy treatments, analysed by surface response methodology. When "normality" goes out of the window, he specialises in the analysis of discrete responses such as counts, proportions and ordered categories (from surveys of customers' degree of satisfaction for example). Sandro also applies survival analysis/time to event techniques.
Being most interested in the application of statistical methods to real life situations, he prefers to make numbers speak through graphs. He teaches computing with statistical packages but he is also keen to develop a more sound use of spreadsheets for statistical work. He is interested in the data flow using databases not only as data entry management systems, but also as catalogues of datasets available to share among institutions.
