Services for the University of Reading
In addition to its external enterprise activities, the SSC actively contributes to the core activities and mission of the University of Reading, allowing it to benefit from the SSC’s wide ranging practical experience of applying statistics.
Consultancy and research support
SSC staff have contacts in many schools and departments within the University. Interactions with University colleagues are sometimes little more than ad-hoc advice, given freely. In other instances University colleagues have become SSC clients, or collaborators. The SSC also contributes more widely to the University via activities such as:
-
Introducing University of Reading researchers to its clients
-
Providing statistical assessment of applications for Project Licenses to the Home Office to support the University’s Local Ethical Review Process
-
Contributing to University initiatives such as the development and delivery of a new Advanced Skills short course (Existing and Emerging Biotechnologies for Science) provided by the School of Biological Sciences together with the Reading-Surrey ECIF Biopharma Skills Project.
Department of Mathematics and Statistics inputs
The SSC provides input into the University’s more traditional activities of teaching and research. This work is part of a well established workload exchange model with the Department of Mathematics and Statistics, School of Mathematical and Physical Sciences, allowing the University to benefit from the SSC’s practical experience. Contributions include:
-
Lecturing on B.Sc. and M.Sc. degree programmes
-
Project supervision
