Who Are We?
We are a self-financing consultancy and training unit, operating within the University of Reading. We have been delivering high quality training and consultancy for more than 30 years.
The SSC was established in 1983 as a part of the Department of Applied Statistics. Currently we are part of the School of Mathematical, Physical and Computational Sciences, but we maintain strong links to our academic partners throughout the University through the Statistical Advisory Service, Reading Researcher Development Programme and work on collaborative projects.
We also have strong links with Statistics for Sustainable Development whose staff members comprise former members of the SSC International team.

What Do We Do?
Our main objective is the promotion of good statistical practice among all users of statistics through consultancy, research support and training. Although our main areas of expertise are statistics and data management, our focus is on providing integrated solutions to help you achieve your goals.
We are particularly renowned for our international development work, partnering with government organisations, major charitable foundations and international research programmes to promote:
- improved decision making at a policy level,
- the alleviation of poverty,
- improving food security,
- adaptation to climate change.
We are always interested in working collaboratively with clients and partners, either to enhance their statistical and data management skills or support existing skills that are available in-house.
