Graduate Institute of Political and International Studies
The Graduate Institute of Political and International Studies (GIPIS) brings together expertise from across a number of Departments at the University. Our teaching and research activities cover important aspects of: European political and economic integration and culture, diplomacy, international politics, international law, globalisation strategy and defence, security and terrorism, arms control and no-proliferation, trade, international political economy, development, the Middle East, political theory and public ethics.
Reading's MA programmes produce some of the country's best students. A recent graduate of the MA in Strategic Studies won the Trench Gascoigne Essay Prize for 2010, the Royal United Services Institute's annual competition awarded for original writing on contemporary issues of national and international defence and security issues. MA Programmes
The Institute offers the following taught MA degree courses:

GIPIS offers a modular system. Students need to accumulate 180 credits in total. Each MA programme has at least one compulsory core module. For example:
- *1 core module (30 credits) + 3 optional modules of 30 credits + dissertation.
