MSc Public Policy

Offered jointly by the Department of Economics and Department of Politics and International Relations, this degree offers strong training in research methods relevant to public policy.

You'll focus on the economics and politics of public policy, and have the opportunity to undertake a Capstone project or an extended project linked to a placement.

MRes Politics and International Relations

Do you want to focus on research as preparation for a PhD? Or pursue a research-oriented career in think tanks, public service and other areas? Then our MRes Politics and International Relations is an excellent choice for you.

This is a flexible course that enables you to focus on the particular research area that interests you.

MA Conflict and International Security 

Analyse contemporary issues of war, conflict and security in the context of politics within and between societies.

Study the causes of organised violence and gain an appreciation of the challenges faced by politicians and military personnel. Learn to think critically about a wide range of political ideas, institutions and events and how they relate to issues of security and conflict.

MA International Relations and Diplomacy 

Gain an appreciation of the complex and contested nature of international politics and diplomatic interactions.

You'll examine diverse approaches to understand the significance of culture, political institutions, actors, ideas and events. You’ll also gain an understanding of current problems faced by policymakers in government departments, international organisations and non-governmental organisations (NGOs).


Fees and funding

All students interested in studying one of our master's courses are eligible to apply for postgraduate funding.

Both UK and international students can apply for a range of scholarships. UK students can receive government loans to help towards tuition fees and living costs. You may also be eligible for other grants and bursaries. Learn more about postgraduate fees and funding at Reading.

ESRC studentships

The Department is a member of the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC)-funded Southeast Network for Social Sciences (SeNSS) Doctoral Training Partnership (DTP), along with several other universities across London and the south east of England. 

SeNSS scholarships include a Research Council rate stipend, tuition fees at the UK rate and provide innovative and challenging world-class doctoral training in a dynamic, inter-disciplinary research environment.
