Areas of Interest:

I am principally interested in (i) International Relations theory, especially realism, the work of Kenneth Waltz, the nature of theory, and the relationship between theory and history and (ii) explanation and causal inquiry in IR, including social science methods, the philosophy of science, and the philosophy of history. I also have research interests in British foreign policy and the ethics of war.
I welcome interest from research students who are working on, or whose work discusses, realist theory, the philosophy of science, and the relationship between theory and history in IR.
