Democracy Day

25th April 2015

1pm-5pm

Madejski Lecture Theatre, Agriculture Building, Whiteknights Campus

Tired of listening to election talk that doesn't get down to the key issues? Frustrated by politicians who don't answer the question. Democracy Day at the University of Reading this Saturday is designed to offer some solutions. It's open to anyone how cares about making an informed choice on polling day next month.

We will be focusing on the policy issues that matter to voters this year. Experts from the university will introduce each topic - suggesting what the key questions are and analysing whether the party manifestos provide adequate answers. Then we will have free-flowing debate in which you can ask the questions you want answered. The event will end with a Question Time with some leading politicians from our area and further afield.

The day will be based around two policy sessions, named below with their contents:

Economy and Well-Being, 1.15pm-2.30pm:

- The Economy

- Welfare

- Immigration

- Housing

- The EU

Foreign Policy and the Future of the UK, 3pm-3.55pm:

- Foreign Policy

- International Development

- Counter-Terrorism Policy

- Constitutional Reform

Our 'Question Time' portion of the event will include participation from:

- Aaron Murray (Green Party)

- Cllr Tony Page (Labour Party)

- Lord Purvis of Tweed (Liberal Democratic Party)

- Sir George Young (Conservative Party)

- Nicky Matheson-Durrant (UKIP)
