Frederick Warne first started publishing in 1865. Warne published Beatrix Potter’s The Tale of Peter Rabbit in 1902, subsequently publishing all the Potter books. Warne then achieved great success with their Observer series of pocket guides which flourished for many years.

The collection contains 30 ledgers, mainly 20th century, including a series of publication books 1904-1980, five volumes of copyright receipts 1860-1956 with a volume devoted to Observer books 1940s-1960s, and one to the works of Beatrix Potter 1904-1976.
