Papers of the Robert Musil Research Unit

Robert Musil (1880-1942) is chiefly remembered for his work Der Mann ohne Eigenschaften (The man without qualities).  He was born in Klagenfurt, Austria, and moved to Switzerland in 1938.

This collection contains papers collected by Ernst and Eithne Kaiser, who were responsible for translating Musil's work into English and established a Musil Research Unit at the University of Reading in 1967. It includes copies of Musil's letters, correspondence of the Kaisers' relating to Musil, catalogues of Musil's original manuscript notes in Vienna, Klagenfurt, Rome and elsewhere, exhibition material, notes for critical studies of Musil's life and work, photocopies of notes, manuscripts and diaries by Musil, transcripts and sundry papers.

There is also a small collection of books and journals by and about Musil.
