Abstract/Proposal Submission Guidelines

1. Guidelines

All abstracts/ paper proposals will be blind reviewed by a panel of 3 reviewers, and should adhere to the following guidelines:

  1. The abstract should outline the result of original, (near) completed research or the development of new methodology relevant to the seminar theme.

  2. Include a brief outline of the research methodology, data collection, (provisional) results and potential applications.

  3. The abstract should not exceed 300 words.

  4. The abstract should have a title.

  5. The abstract should be written in English.

  6. Do not add author name or affiliation to the abstract.

  7. Only one authored and/or co-authored paper can be submitted.

  8. The deadline for the submission of abstracts is 31st March 2004.

  9. The reviewers will pay particular attention to how the proposed contribution fits in with the aims and objectives of the seminar (see Homepage)

Papers are invited on all aspects of the seminar theme, but we welcome particularly papers which make links between disciplines, and which focus on practical outcomes.

Presenters are reminded of the need to make their research accessible to audiences from other strands of linguistic research.

2. Email Submissions

Abstracts submitted via email should be sent as attachments to lang-id@reading.ac.uk. The following information should be provided in each email, but not in the attached abstract:

  • a) Last name
  • b) First name
  • c) Title of abstract
  • d) Affiliation
  • e) Postal address
  • f) Daytime telephone number
  • g) Email address

3. Postal Submissions

3 copies of the abstract should be sent to the address below, with the information requested in step 2. (a-g) above provided on a separate sheet of paper.

4. Equipment Requirements

There will be a Windows computer, an LCD projector, and an overhead projector in the room for every session.

If you require any other computer, audio or video equipment for your presentation, please email your requirements to lang-id@reading.ac.uk.

5. Further Information

The seminar places considerable importance on the discussion of issues arising and emerging themes. Papers will be allocated 15 minutes in a participatory session. Each participatory session will consist of three short presentations of 15 minutes, plus 15 minutes for discussion. The time limit will be strictly adhered to. There will be further discussion time and round-ups at the end of each day.
