Finding out about the range of internship and development schemes available to you in and outside of the University.

The University is dedicated to helping our students develop their experiential learning through work experience and placement learning. We offer a wide range of extracurricular placement schemes to help you gain experience for your own skills and self development and also to give you the competitive edge when applying for graduate jobs.

Please see our handy guide Experience Works which gives you the details of all placement schemes and opportunities run by the University of Reading and our Students' Union (RUSU).

Being paid for work experience and placements

Work experience and internships can be paid or unpaid depending on the how it has been arranged with your employer. If you are undertaking a work placement as part of your course you generally do not qualify for the national minimum wage unless your placement exceeds one year. The Directgov website provides guidance on whether you are entitled to the National Minimum Wage - http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/Employment/Employees/TheNationalMinimumWage/DG_198089
