Spring Social Programme

Welcome to the Senior Common Room (SCR) web page. We are a club, formed in 1897 [read the history], with membership open to all staff of the University, and to others by election. There are currently over 800 members. The SCR provides facilities for members and their guests to meet in pleasant surroundings, thus aiding the informal interdisciplinary communication that is an essential part of university life. Our facilities in Park House (pictured) are at the centre of the Whiteknights campus and include the bar and dining rooms, private dining rooms, newspaper and TV lounges, a meeting room and a wine shop. The wine shop in Park House is open most lunchtimes from 13-00 to 13-45 (contacts: Andrew Wilbey, R.A.Wilbey@reading.ac.uk, and Demetris Savva, x8460 or D.Savva@reading.ac.uk

On the London Road campus, Acacias,  the elegant house that was used as the common room building for most of the time since our foundation in 1897,  members may use the lounge. SCR also runs a wine cellar in Acacias to complement that in Park House. The wine cellar here is open for about one hour each week, usually on Thursdays (contacts: either Andrew Wilbey or Demetris Savva, see above). The social programme includes a termly wine tasting in Park House, occasional wine tastings in Acacias and various events such as a November Fireworks (especially for families), a Summer Dinner, a Christmas Dinner, walks, visits.
