Connecting creatively with business

professional facilities available in the School of Arts and Communication Design

As part of our mission to "Create, Interpret, Conserve", the School develops teaching and research links with business and other external partners. Each department is involved in a range of interactions with arts organisations, museums and galleries, as well as businesses in the private and public sector.

Professional Services

Within the School there are a number of professional services available:

Black Box is an innovative training workshop

Corporate Video - video production drawing on an impressive range of facilities

Career learning is embedded in all of the School's undergraduate programmes, and Students benefit from our industry links, which feed into their practice-based learning.

In Art, students collaborations include exhibitions with organisations such as Modern Art Oxford, Deutsche Bank Bracknell, Merz Barn Residency and the Royal Berks Hospital, and internships with external arts organisations such as Studio Voltaire, Chisenhale Gallery or Frieze Art Fair.

Students in Film, Theatre & Television have opportunities in professional practice via a Work-based Learning module, as well as work experience with various companies and organisations, including Thames Valley Police, Reading Borough Council, The Department of Transport and SEAT car manufacturer. Recently, students in the department were involved in an innovative professional Home Theatre project with Theatre Royal Stratford East.

Typography has a long-standing 'Real Jobs' programme for its students in association with the Design and Print Studio, providing a unique learning environment and allowing students to engage with professional design and print staff and equipment

Alumni of the School are actively involved in creating professional opportunities for our current students, providing links with businesses that visit campus and recruit from its graduates. Film, Theatre and Television runs an Alumni Mentoring programme, which includes over 20 graduate mentors working in the film, theatre and television industries.

External links in research include Art and Typography's museum and gallery partnerships with the Victoria & Albert Museum, the Design Museum and the Institute of Contemporary Arts (ICA).
