4.6 km (2.9miles) downstream

The race is rowed downstream on one of the best reaches of the middle Thames on the six kilometre stretch between Mapledurham and Cavasham Locks. The start is nearly one kilometre below Mapledurham to allow room above the start for marshalling the crews.
Timing is operated from the "Roebuck" landing stage over a course of four and a half kilometres to a point just below Cavasham Bridge.

Below is a map of the coxing instructions for crews once they have finished. All crews must row down beyond Fry's Island, and then turn before Reading Bridge they will find landing a lot easier and safer.

Below is a map of the course with the details for safety and marshalling.
