How is language acquired, how do we process it and how is it affected by age? These are just some of the questions being tackled by the Language, Development and Ageing Division as we address key societal challenges relating to language and aim to inform intervention and policy making.
Our research encompasses areas including neurobiology and neuropsychology, the acquisition of language in children with developmental disorders and the role that memory plays in comprehension.
We also make the most of technology, employing it to develop new interventions for acquired language impairments and considering how it can help with literacy development.
Our academics engage with key figures in health, education and business and are integral members of a host of laboratories and research centres, including the Centre for Autism, Centre for Literacy and Multilingualism and the Brain and Language Lab.
