The Department of Real Estate & Planning benefits enormously for the work of The Reading Real Estate Foundation. RREF was established in January 2002 at the instigation of Professor Andrew Baum, who remains active in the running of the organisation. The aim of RREF is to provide support for real estate education at the University of Reading and one aspect of this is a range of scholarships and awards for current students. Full details of these can be found here and also on the RREF web site. RREF also provides an annual grant for excellence in teaching, which is awarded on the basis of student nominations.

RREF has created a database of all Reading real estate graduates who, to date, number some 3,000. The Reading Real Estate Alumni Database has been developed to build a bridge between the academic world and industry by strengthening the links between REP and the Reading real estate graduates. The RREF Real Estate Advisory Board provides a forum for informed but independent advice to REP on issues surrounding the employability of REP students and ensures that real estate education at Reading responds to current business needs. RREF also organises alumni events including the RREF Annual Lunchtime Lecture, the RREF Annual Golf Day and the RREF Annual Dinner.

In addition to the alumni events, RREF has a thriving Student Society which organises events for current real estate and planning students throughout the year, these include an evening lectures series, an annual student ball and regular sporting fixtures. RREF also organises an annual Careers Fair which is attended by more than 30 firms, offers help with work experience and summer placements and liaises with the University Careers Service. RREF currently has two full time employees, Katie Gifford and Alex Marshall, who are also actively involved in outreach work, running a schools programme to promote careers in the real estate industry and to attract the best school leavers to Real Estate & Planning.
