The University of Reading
Our Department
The Department of Real Estate & Planning was originally established as the Department of Land Management and Development in 1968. We enjoy a world wide reputation for excellence both in teaching and research. We are consistently in the top three in all major league tables and the US based Urban Land Institute ranks us as the leading Real Estate centre in Europe.  We are now taking a principal role in the development of The University of Reading Business School and are the only Real Estate department in the country to have a separate identity within a more general business school.

URS BuildingWe offer a comprehensive range of undergraduate and postgraduate courses all of which are accredited by the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors. Our planning courses are also fully accredited by the Royal Town Planning Institute. Our courses are highly regarded by employers, many of whom come to the University to recruit our students. The Department was awarded the top rating - five - in the last Research Assessment exercise. This means that our research is recognised as having achieved "international levels of excellence".

We have a very active alumni association, the Reading Real Estate Foundation (RREF), who organise events for both past and current students and also fund a number of awards and bursaries. The interaction between our alumni and the Department ensures that we are aware of, and respond to, changing business needs.

The Department is located in the URS building on the Whiteknights campus, a 320 acre landscaped park just a short distance from the vibrant town centre. Reading is situated on the River Thames midway between London and Oxford and enjoys excellent road and rail links. London is just 25 minutes by train and Heathrow is less than 30 miles by fast coach link.
