More information about the public lecture series

The University of Reading Public Lecture Series  is a showcase of just some of the research topics that are carried out at the University. The lectures are given by researchers eminent in their field but in a manner that is easily understood by all. They offer a unique opportunity to learn something of the research, teaching and people that make the University a world-class institute.

Lectures start at 8pm and last for approximately 45 minutes followed by questions from the audience. Lectures are free to attend and members of the public are very welcome. Guests are advised to arrive from 7.15pm as places are limited.

The lectures are held in the Palmer Lecture Theatre, which is situated in the centre of the Whiteknights campus (No. 26 on the University Campus Map, see link below).

Dol.cHe Vita espresso bar (located in the foyer of the Palmer Building) will be open for sandwiches, soups, salads, snacks and drinks before the lectures.

Travel and transport information

Detailed information about how to get to the University campus including a detailed map of the Whiteknights campus (PDF - 800KB) can be found on our maps and how to find the University of Reading pages.

Travelling by car and parking

We recommend you use the Shinfield Road entrance to the University (see link to the Whiteknights map above) and follow event signs to the Palmer Building. Although all parking on campus is free of charge with no permit required after 5pm, we advise guests park in car park 4 (P4 on the Whiteknights map). Once parked, guests are invited to make their way to the Palmer Building (1 minute walk). The route will be signposted.

Public transport

The University is served by excellent public transport links. Bus and train information is given on the University website, see the link above. The mainline train station is served by a direct link bus service to the campus. The bus route travels through the Whiteknights campus; guests are advised to alight at the Whiteknights House bus stop. Guests can then follow event signs to the Palmer Building from here.
