Freshers’ Fayre (2010)

October 6, 2010
11:00 amto16:00 pm

Just a quick note:
Reading University Photographic Society will of course be at RUSU’s Freshers’ Fayre on Wednesday 6 October 2010.
Do come and find us in the tent between 1100 and 1600, membership will be again be £10 for students, with a slight increase to £15 for non-students.

If you’ve just received your results and are Reading bound, then please feel free to contact the society if you have any questions. Remember PhotoSoc is for those who are interested in starting photography as well as those who have been doing it for several years.

In the meantime why not have a look at our online galleries or our flickr group.

Also we’re now on Twitter, feel free to follow us: http://www.twitter.com/ruphotosoc

Looking forward to seeing you!
The tent is behind RUSU’s 3Sixty Nightclub and stands in Car Park 4.

2010 Summer Challenge

Reading University Photographic Society needs your help!

If you’re a member you may have noticed that a number of our presentations need updating. Whilst they might have been great a few years ago, they’re really starting to look dated. As a committee we’re updating and massively improving the presentations themselves over the holiday, and this got me to thinking. A number of the photographs included are either unclear examples or taken on significantly old hardware and now are showing their age.

Therefore: Your mission if you choose to accept it is as follows:
We need a number of new photographs, showing different aspects of photography. A definitive list (to be continuously updated) is at the bottom of this post. Photographs will need to be taken in Aperture/Shutter Priority or Manual as appropriate and must be of a sufficient resolution (4MP), also please take a photograph either side of “correct,” i.e. Underexposed, Correct Exposure, Overexposed OR Too Slow Shutter Speed, Correct Speed, Too Fast Shutter Speed; etc.. These photographs will be used purely on a non-commercial basis by the society for the purpose of the instruction of society members in the art of photography with no rights other than the ability to use them on this basis being required. Credit will of course be given in the appropriate places, so please don’t watermark them as this can significantly detract from the images and it is for teaching purposes. If you have any entries, email them to us at photosoc@reading.ac.uk. Sadly, we won’t be able to offer any prizes to selected photographs, except our gratitude and a mention on this website as the budget doesn’t go that far, but it would be great if you could help out this student society.

Many Thanks in Advance,
Russell Ede, President (2010/11)

The List (Last Updated: 02/08/10)

  • 4-5x Photographs showing the Compression with Zoom Effect,
  • 3x Photos showing Depth of Field Effects, i.e. shallow, medium, infinitive,
  • Fast Shutter Speed, i.e. Frozen Motion,
  • Medium: General
  • Slow: A la Webster
  • Very Slow: Light Trails

  • More to Come Soon
