Clinical Teaching
The philosophy of speech and language therapy teaching at the University of Reading has always been to integrate clinical practice with academic teaching and to ensure that research informs clinical practice. Our merger with the Department of Psychology has enabled us to further this aim. Our new expanded premises have given us the opportunity to initiate a new and exciting relationship with our local speech and language therapy service. Our clinics have had their own paediatric catchment area within the PCT for many years and regular clinics are taken by University staff as part of our teaching programme with all our students. Since moving to our new accommodation in August 2005 we have a new agreement withthe local speech and language therapy service. Speech and language therapists working with adults with acquired speech and language disorders within thecommunity operate from our clinics. We also host specialist dysfluency clinics for childrenand adults. Our students thus experience a busy clinic atmosphere as part of their on-campus experience from their first days at University.
