Application Process

The closing date for student applications is the last working day of Welcome week i.e. the week before the teaching term begins.

If you are starting a course part way through the academic year you can apply for a parking permit within ten working days of you starting your course.

Your application will be considered against the following qualifying criteria:

  • Medical condition causing current mobility issues
  • Temporary incapacity
  • Course related requirements
  • Extracurricular activities

For more information on the qualifying criteria please see the Halls Criteria. If you are granted a permit you will receive an email confirming application has been successful within 10 working days of submitting the application. If successful, you will be required to provide evidence that you have valid insurance, MOT and a valid driving licence that permits you to drive in the UK.

Unsuccessful applicants may appeal the decision.


Students with a valid disabled badge can apply for a free permit. Otherwise the costs are as follows:

  • £20.60 for term car permit
  • £51.50 for annual car permit
  • £12.36 for annual motorcycle permit

Online payment details will be provided to successful applicants. The amount must be paid within ten working days. Failure to make payment will result in the permit being cancelled.

  • I declare that the vehicle detailed above is insured against third party risks for use on public and private roads and that the vehicle has a valid road fund licence.
  • I hold a full driving licence for the class of vehicle that the application refers to and the driving licence is valid for driving in the UK.
  • I have read, understood and agree to abide by the Parking Regulations.
  • I agree to the University charging me for the student parking permit.
  • I agree to make this payment as quickly as possible.

The information you provide will be stored in a parking database for use by authorised personnel. Revenue generated from Vehicle Entry Permits is used to fund initiatives from the University's Green Transport Plan. Charges are reviewed annually. Appeal Process

If you have been refused a parking permit you may choose to appeal to the Parking Appeal Panel. An appeal must be made within 5 working days from receiving notification of refusal.

The Parking Appeal Panel will meet on the 29th of October to determine the outcome of any appeals received in the academic year 2018/19.

The Parking Appeal Panel (three out of five members will determine an appeal and the appeal panel should always include a student representative) will consist of:

  • Director of Student & Applicant Services
  • Director of Estates and Facilities
  • Campus Services Director
  • Student Welfare and Representation Member
  • Director of Student Recruitment and Outreach (only to be asked to attend the Parking Appeal Panel meeting if other members are unavailable)
