Staff parking
There are a number of different ways to get to the University, but for staff that drive there are a limited number of parking spaces available across the University's campuses. To park on campus you will need to have a valid parking permit.
Getting a permit
To apply for a parking permit, you'll need to print out and complete the Staff Vehicle Entry Permit Form (VEP1) (PDF 77KB) and return it to reception in the Palmer Building. Staff with disabled badges are entitled to a free permit. Casual staff cannot apply for a parking permit but should ask the staff member responsible for their employment to contact reception at reception@reading.ac.uk to arrange a visitor's permit.
Renewals
You can renew your permit by completing the online renewal form (VEP2).
Cancelling your permit
If you no longer need your parking permit, please return it to Palmer Reception. We will cancel the permit and inform Payroll to stop the parking charges being deducted from your salary.
Updating your details
Please keep us informed of any changes to your employment or if you change your vehicle. You can complete the online amendment form (VEP3) to update your parking permit.
Temporary permits
You can park at the University up to five times in a term without a parking permit. To do so you must obtain a temporary parking permit from reception, either in person, by emailing reception@reading.ac.uk or by calling +44 (0)118 378 7150.
Charges
Parking for staff with a disabled badge is free. All other staff are required to pay a small fee, which will be deducted from their salary every month. The current charges are as follows:
- £48 per year for staff earning over £10,000 per annum - £4 per month deducted from salary.
- £12 per year for staff earning less than £10,000 per annum - £1 per month deducted from salary.
- £12 per year for any member of staff using a motorcycle - £1 per month deducted from salary.
Where you can park on campus
The University has a number of car parks spread across each of its campuses. Download the map of car parks at the University of Reading (PDF 285KB) to find out where you can park.
Disabled parking spaces
There are dedicated disabled parking bays in every University car park.
Parking regulations
Parking at the University is subject to the Conditions under which permits are granted (PDF 66KB). Anyone infringing the regulations is likely to receive a warning notice and a fine of £60.
Arranging parking for visitors
To arrange parking for a visitor to the campus, please complete the online visitor parking booking form.
Keeping your vehicle secure
Vehicle crime rates on campus are comparable to the rest of the Thames Valley area. You can reduce the risk of your vehicle being broken into by following these simple steps:
- Always lock your vehicle.
- Never leave any items on display.
- Remove all valuable items from your vehicle.
- Remove the fascia from any radio/stereo equipment.
- Remove all Sat Nav Equipment, including the holder.
- Do not leave your vehicle on campus overnight.
- Always use any security devices fitted to your car.
