This Friday (22 June 2012) the University of Reading is delighted to welcome prospective students and their parents to the summer Open Day. Over 6,000 visitors from across the country are expected at the Whiteknights campus where they will discover the range of high-quality courses on offer at Reading, one of the top 1% of universities in the world.

Between 10am and 3pm there is the opportunity to look around the University and its facilities and talk to academic staff and students about courses on offer.

The University of Reading is renowned around the world and takes pride in its established history, cutting-edge research and research-led teaching, in areas as diverse as food and nutritional sciences and construction management. With its community, cosmopolitan atmosphere and award-winning green parkland campus Reading delivers a world-class student experience.  Current students have given the University an 89% satisfaction rating.

Open Day visitors can view state-of-the-art teaching facilities, the SportsPark, Library, new catering facilities and student accommodation, including the recently completed Mackinder and Stenton Halls. The day will begin with a welcome from the Vice-Chancellor, and a series of general information talks on accommodation, careers, student finance, student life, studying abroad, sport and music, and support services will also take place on the day.

This year has seen the opening of the University's new home for the Department of Film, Theatre and Television, the Minghella building, named in honour of the late Anthony Minghella, the award-winning playwright, screenwriter and director. The £11 million project houses cutting-edge facilities, including a state-of-the-art cinema, sound studio and two fully-equipped theatre spaces.

Sir David Bell, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Reading said: "This is one of the most important days of the year in the University's calendar and we're looking forward to welcoming thousands of people to see our Whiteknights campus."

Every effort has been made to ensure that visitors receive the best possible experience of Reading, whilst keeping any disruption to the community to a minimum. All visitors to the Open Day have been advised to travel by public transport where possible, and a park and ride service has also been provided.
