Record fundraising campaign at the University of Reading despite recession – University of Reading

The University of Reading is proud to announce its Annual Fund team has just completed another hugely successful telephone campaign, raising a record £250,000 in just five weeks. The money will provide financial support to students as well as fund various important projects on campus.
In this the 11th campaign, 50 current students telephoned a range of Reading alumni from across the decades, sharing their experiences of University life, past and present. Furthermore, over one in three alumni spoken to chose to make a donation to the Annual Fund.
Since 2004, the Annual Fund has raised almost £2 million to enhance the student experience on campus. It is widely recognised that a University education is financially demanding, and the University of Reading firmly believes that all of their students should benefit from the very best academic provision and pastoral support, regardless of financial background.
Andy Wood, Director of Development & Alumni Relations at the University of Reading said: "The amount raised is, of course, wonderful, but the number of alumni choosing to make a gift is especially pleasing given the current economic climate. Their generous response shows how much Reading graduates value their degree, and that the University offers the very best student experience.
"Thanks to the generous donations from alumni, staff and friends of the University, the Annual Fund has been able to provide thousands of pounds worth of financial support to the students who need it most, through means of bursaries, hardship funds and scholarships. The Annual Fund also supports a wide range of academic and extra-curricular projects across the campus."
From single contributions of £20 to regular gifts of £1,000 per year; collectively, all of the alumni who made a donation are making a huge difference to the quality of students' lives.
