Local schoolchildren see value of studying science – University of Reading

Release Date : 13 November 2009

Elvian School in the Science Centre

Nearly 40 pupils from local Elvian School had a fun and interesting day at the University of Reading recently, designing, building and programming robots.

The event was held at the University's Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM) Engagement Centre, and aimed to introduce young people to applied science through team based learning activities.

The STEM Centre's Samantha Tye said: "We were delighted to work with Elvian School on what was our first outreach day held in the Centre. It was a huge success and fantastic to see the enthusiasm and enjoyment of the pupils. Hopefully it has inspired some of them to think about embarking on a career in science or engineering.

Elvian School in Reading is just one of the many partnership schools that the University of Reading works closely with, to encourage young people to study science in further and higher education.

Schools wishing to take part in a free activity day at the STEM Engagement Centre, then please email: info@sciencestudios.co.uk or visit
