World employers rank University of Reading as world leading – University of Reading

The University of Reading's status as a world top 200 University has been cemented in the 2009 Times Higher Education - QS World University Rankings, published today.The 2009 rankings see the University rise up the rankings three places to 191st.

Being ranked in the top 200 of the world's 9000 universities* places the University of Reading in the world's top 2.5% of higher education institutions.

Professor Gordon Marshall, University of Reading Vice-Chancellor, said: "The University's growing reputation, both nationally and internationally, as a University that marries world-changing research with the highest quality teaching is reflected in a number of recent surveys and reports. Following hot on the heels of the resounding thumbs up for the quality of our teaching in the recent National Student Survey, this latest ranking cements our position in the highest echelons of world universities.

"Particularly pleasing in these difficult economic times is the Employers Survey component of the Times Higher Education - QS World University Rankings which has Reading placed as the 146th best university in the world from which to recruit graduates. As the new academic year gets underway, we know this will offer a great deal of cheer to students entering their final year and to our staff who are working so hard to prepare Reading students for the workplace."

The Times Higher Education - QS World University Rankings have been running since 2004 and are amongst the highest profile global evaluations of comparative university quality.

National Student Survey 2009

Students at the University of Reading have given the thumbs up to their university, with 87% of those responding to the National Student Survey 2009 stating they were satisfied with the quality of their course. The rating is significantly above the national average for higher education institutions (82%).

Times Higher Education - QS World University Rankings

The university was ranked 194th in the 2008 THE - QS World University Rankings.

As part of the THE – QS World University Rankings, the Employer Survey ranked the University 146th. Over 2000 recruiters of graduates across the globe were asked from which universities they like to recruit. The employers sample included a wide range of businesses.
