Undergraduate applications to University of Reading up 9% – University of Reading

Applications from home students₁ for undergraduate courses at the University of Reading have risen by 9% on this time last year.

The University has received 16,400 applications from home (including EU) students. In addition, applications from overseas students have risen by 16% to 1300.

Anthony Keeble, University Admissions Officer, said: "Competition for undergraduate places at the University of Reading will be keener than ever this year. A degree from a top-200 world ranked university such as Reading is increasingly valued and we expect a challenging admissions period with a very high quality student intake in October."

"We have also seen a 17% increase in mature student applications for undergraduate courses this year while there are still places for postgraduate research degrees and taught programmes. In the current economic climate, universities such as Reading will play a key role in helping people up-skill, re-train and adapt to the changing jobs market."

Government funding for places at Reading is capped at just under 3000 students for 2009/10, similar to last year's numbers.

Data released today by UCAS, the organisation responsible for managing applications to higher education courses in the UK, shows that the number of applicants to UK universities and colleges is up 8.8% on this time last year. This refers to people applying for full-time undergraduate courses and is a snapshot taken at 24 March.
