Students give University top marks

Release Date 24 August 2006

Students expressed an impressive 82% level of satisfaction with their course at University of Reading, according to the National Student Survey. In a survey for the Higher Education Funding Council for England (Hefce), Reading was rated 22nd out of 129 UK institutions for students being satisfied with their course. Over 1,300 final year students from Reading took part in the national survey. A number of departments at the University scored significantly well, not only scoring well within the University but also beating the national average scores. Students studying Physical Geography, Environmental Science and Management stated that they were 88% satisfied with their course. The Schools of Agriculture and Psychology also scored particularly well, their students indicated that they were 86% satisfied with their course in these areas. Those studying the physical sciences also said that they too were 86% happy with the various courses they had taken. The survey asked students to rate their course under seven different categories. The University scored better than the national average in the areas of academic support, teaching on the course, organisation and management and learning resources. 'We are delighted with the results from this year's National Student Survey,' said Professor Rob Robson, Pro-Vice Chancellor for Teaching and Learning at the University. 'The survey shows that students attending Reading will enjoy their studies here and can expect a high level of support from their department.'
