Work on all-weather football pitches for Whiteknights campus starts

Release Date 07 July 2009

Work to develop three new floodlit five-a-side football pitches on the University of Reading's Whiteknights campus begins this week.

The pitches, which will be on the footprint of a current sports area near the SportsPark, will provide the latest synthetic grass surface, enabling better use of outdoor facilities, particularly during the autumn and spring terms, when the previous grass facilities became waterlogged.

The pitches will use the latest sports pitch lighting, designed to concentrate the lighting on the pitches and not impact in the surrounding area or create skyglow.

The pitches are due to be completed by the end of August.

Notes to editors:

The floodlights use the latest sophisticated design to minimise light and direct the light only onto the playing surface.

SportsPark facilities are open to everyone. More details at www.sport.reading.ac.uk / 0118 378 8799

The contractor appointed to carry out the works is McArdle Sports-Tec Ltd, based in Wallingford
