Meteorological Observatory tours

The University of Reading’s Department of Meteorology is celebrating its 50th anniversary as a world-leading centre for weather and climate research this summer.

We’ve been making weather observations at Reading since 1902. Today we have over 100 years of unbroken daily records, including temperature and rainfall. Most of our instruments are fully automatic, and information is logged by computer every second of every day, 365 days per year.

The wide range of observatory instruments and their records provide a valuable teaching resource to the department as well as continuing long climate record.

This tour is now fully booked.
