CANCELLED: Reading Film Theatre: The Personal History of David Copperfield (PG)

Due to the developing coronavirus situation we have unfortunately made the difficult decision to cancel this event

The Personal History of David Copperfield is a comedy-drama film written and directed by Armando Iannucci. Based on the Dickens’ Victorian era novel David Copperfield, this terrifically likable, genial adaptation taps into the author’s humanity and optimism, if perhaps at the expense of the novel’s darker side. Iannucci’s emphasis is on the forward gallop of the story –taking his eye off the pathos and sadness, though there is a strong focus on poverty and homelessness. But everything’s just sparkling and it’s a richly satisfying experience.

UK/USA 2019 – Directed by Armando Iannucci with Tilda Swinton, Dev Patel, Hugh Laurie – 119 min
