Meteorological Observatory Tours
Tour the University’s Meteorological Observatory
We’ve been making weather observations at Reading since 1901. Today we have over 100 years of unbroken daily records including temperature and rainfall. Most of our instruments are fully automatic, and information is logged by computer every second of every day. The wide range of observatory instruments and their records provide a valuable teaching resource to the department as well as continuing our long climate record. Public tours of the Atmospheric Observatory are held every summer; booking is essential as places are limited. Early booking is advised, as these tours are popular and fill up well in advance!
Bookings for summer 2019 tours are now open. The tour dates are as follows:
- Friday 28 June
- Friday 12 July
- Friday 26 July
All tours start at 3.00 p.m. prompt and will last for about an hour.
Tours are open to all, but on the 26 July tour (at the start of the school holidays) priority will be given to school sixth-form students (or those about to enter sixth form) who may be considering applying for a place at Reading to study Meteorology or Environmental Physics.
